Although not from his WPA period this is a relatively early work and its appeal and ultimately its value is derived entirely from the subject

I think originally I felt I’d just discover it was by a celebrated court artist of the day and pay off my mortgage but it’s clearly not as easy as Philip Mould makes it look

I don’t think there has been a time when we haven’t had at least one Topolski in the gallery
